You've probably already seen

a couple of academic papers (read
this one before
this one) that are worth a look. In summary, the papers conclude that *current* AOP languages violate Dijkstra's principle of a “coordinate system” for understanding the evaluation of variables. Worth a look if you're into this sort of thing.
