Me and XSD: setting the record straight

After the first day of the XML DevCon last week, Jay Kimble wrote this post. While he pointed out that it was in fun, it said that I hate XSD enough times to make me think I should say something. Anyone who reads my blog knows that I prefer RelaxNG to XSD. However, the industry is using the latter. I accept that, so I embrace XSD. It can do what we need. We just have to figure out the best way to use it. I've posted my ideas here before. I expect to most more over time.

that's where i'm at - i love RelaxNG, but telling people to use it instead of schema in WSDL is like giving someone directions and saying "well i wouldn't start from here if i was you" ..

I said you hate XSD probably more from being sleep-depraived and wanting to try to catch the essense of what you were saying ("hate" was most definitely the wrong word... You clarified this later anyways...)

I've been reading your blog for awhile which was why I told you that you had given me another headache after your speech. The first came when you were discussing how we should architect the XML a few months back (I chewed on that one for a week... I'm definitely not an architect, yet... <sigh>)
